Roald Dahl is best known for his fantastic short stories and work on childrens books and screenplays on TV, however he also wrote a very interesting memoir of his days in the RAF at the begining of WW2. Not ever dry or dull and some of it is even laugh out loud funny, this work is a time capsule to another era in our history. Be sure to get a copy . It reads very fast and will leave you wanting more.
