Jonathan Lethem: IMG Stops: On Those Things My New Novel Forgot to Be About, Maybe

For me, there's a weird, unfathomable gulf — I almost wrote gulp — between the completion of a novel and its publication. Some days this duration feels interminable, as though the book has... Continue »

The Ordinary Princess

by M M Kaye

The Ordinary Princess Cover

Synopses & Reviews

Publisher Comments:

Along with Wit, Charm, Health, and Courage, Princess Amy of Phantasmorania receives a special fairy christening gift: Ordinariness. Unlike her six beautiful sisters, she has brown hair and freckles, and would rather have adventures than play the harp, embroider tapestries . . . or become a Queen. When her royal parents try to marry her off, Amy runs away and, because she's so ordinary, easily becomes the fourteenth assistant kitchen maid at a neighboring palace. And there . . . much to everyone's surprise . . . she meets a prince just as ordinary (and special) as she is!

"This delightful fairy tale is sure to please young romantics . . . Neither Kaye's princess nor her book should be considered ordinary." (School Library Journal)

Synopsis:

The classic contemporary fairy tale is now back in print. Christened by the fairies with the gift of Ordinariness, a princess still manages to meet a prince just as ordinary (and special) as she is. Illustrations.

Synopsis:

Along with wit, charm, health and courage, Princess Amy receives a special fairy christening gift--ordinariness. Can she ever find happiness being so plain? Illustrations.

If you ever get tired of fairy stories full of beautiful, blonde princesses, you'll love the Ordinary Princess! She's cursed with Ordinariness at her christening, and turns out to be a nice, pleasant girl, not at all gorgeous. In spite of disappointing her royal family with her lack of beauty and penchant for climbing trees, the Ordinary Princess finds a way to sidestep convention and end up with a Prince who loves her for who she is- an ordinary girl. Delightful!
