Before. Miles “Pudge” Halter is done with his safe life at home. His whole life has been one big non-event, and his obsession with famous last words has only made him crave “the Great Perhaps” even more (Francois Rabelais, poet). He heads off to the sometimes crazy and anything-but-boring world of Culver Creek Boarding School, and his life becomes the opposite of safe. Because down the hall is Alaska Young. The gorgeous, clever, funny, sexy, self-destructive, screwed up, and utterly fascinating Alaska Young. She is an event unto herself. She pulls Pudge into her world, launches him into the Great Perhaps, and steals his heart. Then. . . . After. Nothing is ever the same.

Review:

"Readers will only hope that this is not the last word from this promising new author." Publishers Weekly

Synopsis:

Miles "Pudge" Halter befriends some fellow boarding-school students and falls in love with Alaska Young, the razor-sharp, self-destructive nucleus of the group. When tragedy strikes, Pudge discovers the value of unconditional love.

Quentin Jacobsen has spent a lifetime loving the magnificently adventurous Margo Roth Spiegelman from afar. So when she cracks open a window and climbs back in the middle of the night—dressed like a ninja and summoning him for an ingenious campaign of revenge—he follows.

After their all-nighter ends, and a new day breaks, Q arrives at school to discover that Margo, always an enigma, has now become a mystery. But Q soon learns that there are clues--and theyre for him. Urged down a disconnected path, the closer he gets, the less Q sees the girl he thought he knew.

this is every bit an adult novel also...as the female character, Alaska is a genius with a manic streak. She be-devils the school she attends and has multiple young men willing ti do what not for her..only she is a daring, wild joyous friend that I would have want to know..back in the day. This is searingly thrilling and sad...most of all..real..beautifully written with characters you get to know through their weaknesses and strengths.

In this captivating novel, Miles Halter leaves his small town in Florida to finish high school at Culver Creek, a boarding school. He sets off to find his “Great Perhaps”, something he believes is waiting to be discovered. At his new school, he meets his best friends, Alaska, the Colonel, Takumi, and Lara. His new friends call him “Pudge” (in honor of his skinny chicken legs) and teach him what life is really about. Pranking, smoking, and taking each day as it comes. Then, tragedy strikes, and Miles’ life will never be the same.
Looking for Alaska is one of the greatest books I’ve ever read. John Green creates interesting and personable characters, who you will get to know and love. I suggest it to both guys and girls. Mature middle schoolers, high schoolers and young adults would agree that this book is enjoyable. (High schoolers will probably find it the most relatable, but others will like it as well.) If you’re looking for a story about the real world, that will take root in your heart and never let go, then this is for you.

John Green has a great way to make you fall in love with his characters in such a short amount of time, and Looking For Alaska is no different. This book will have you laughing, crying, and feeling for the characters all the way through. His writing is so amazing that once you read it you will just want to read all of his books, and even pick them up a second time right after you read it. If you're looking for a book that will take you on a roller coaster ride and have it be well written then this book is for you.
