Publisher Comments:

For most kids, "The Trunchbull" is pure terror, but for Matilda, she's a sitting duck.

This is my absolute favorite book from childhood, and even today it's still one of my top 10 favorite books that I have ever read. The story about the exceedingly smart little girl who loves to read and simply devours books resonated with me because I identified with her as a child. Matilda having to grow up with such a horrible family who neither appreciates who she is as a person or her intelligence also resonated with me. Her triumph over both the evil Trunchbull by using the incredible powers found within herself and over her family situation by being fortunate enough to find such a loving woman who adopts her - she finally has found family she has always wanted - is truly an inspiring and uplifting tale for children. All the antics in the book from the salamander in the Trunchbull's waterglass to the Trunchbull's swinging around young girls by the hair are amusing as well as enthralling for children to read about, and this book is a diamond in the rough in the genre of children's literature - a true classic.
