Publisher Comments:

The Dog Star, Sirius, is tried for murder by his heavenly peers and found guilty. His sentence: to be reborn on Earth as a dog until such time as he carries out the seemingly impossible mission imposed on him.

In his Earth guise, Sirius, renamed Leo, truly lives a dog's life. Although he is the pet of a girl who loves him, both child and dog are mistreated by the family with whom they live. But the worldly obstacles Leo faces are minor when compared with his chilling encounters with the Dark Powers that are set against him. His quest seems hopeless until at lost Sol, Moon, and Earth itself come to his aid.

Dogsbody is a tense, exciting, sciencefiction fantasy, a thriller, and a touching dog story all in one.

Synopsis:

The Dog Star, Sirius, is tried - and found guilty - by his heavenly peers for a murder he did not commit. His sentence: to live on the planet Earth until he can carry out a seemingly impossible mission - the recovery of a deadly weapon known as the Zoi. The first lesson Sirius learns in his lowly earthly form is that humans have all the power. The second is that even though his young mistress loves him, she can't protect either of them. The third - and worst - is that someone out there will do anything to keep Sirius from finding the Zoi. Even if it means destroying Earth itself. This funny, heartbreaking, stunning book features an introduction by Neil Gaiman, an avid fan of Diana Wynne Jones.

This is an amazing book, well written! I recommend it for people of all ages. Heres a quick rundown of the book. Sirus the dog star, was trialed unfairly, allegedly accused of a murder that he is innocent of. (And also misusing a Zoi which is a supernatrual object with unmistankable power) Becuase of his so called "Companion" and the "Witness" the Jury finds Sirus guilty. His sentence which consists of being exiled to the "Earth Plane". This sentence is immediately put into place. Quote fom book: ""You are hearby sentenced to be stripped of all spheres, honors and effulgences and Banished from here to the body of a creature native to that spheres where the missing Zoi is thought to have fallen. If during the lifespan of that creature, you are able to find and retrieve the Zoi, the Court will be pleased to reinstate you in all your former spheres and dignities. Failure to retrieve the Zoi will carry no further punishment. In the Court s opinion, it is sufficient that you simply die in the manner natural to the creature of that sphere" (From Dogsbody by Diana Wynne Jones. Now this may not make a lot of sense by the first time reading it, but I simply assure you that if you start from the beginning everything will fall into place and make perfect sense. Sirus, is exiled to Earth immediately and he must find the Zoi while in the form of a dog. Sirus the Dog Star, a luminary green star, has now been transformed and is in a dogs body. (Lab mix, white dog with red ears I believe) Sirus,ls now in puppy form is deemed unwanted because of his green eyes by the mean Mrs . Partridge. She casts him out with a few other puppies into a cold river, leaving them to drown. Only Sirus made it out alive to my understanding. He is found half dead by a little girl named Kathleen and her cousins Basil and Robin. Kathleen being the youngest, cares for Sirus. She seems to be a young Cinderella. Duffie who takes care of her, is harsh and cruel, always ordering Kathleen around and is extremely critical of the young girls work. Duffie constantly threatens to have Sirus out down (she hates dogs, but adores cats). Kathleen and Sirus are all each other has, and soon Sirus must find the Zoi before another evil force beats him to it. Dogsbody is a simply charming story. Sirus is stuck in the body of a dog which I gave mentioned many times now, thus gives the book it's title
