When fifteen-year-old Æthelflæd is suddenly and reluctantly betrothed to an ally of her father, the king, her world will never be the same. For as a noblewoman in the late 800s, she will be expected to be meek and unlearned-and Flæd is anything but meek and unlearned. Her marriage will bring peace to her land, but while her royal blood makes her a valuable asset, she is also a vulnerable target. And when enemies attack, Flæd must draw upon her skills and fight to lead her people to safety and prove her worth as a princess-and as a warrior.

The Edge on the Sword is a very fact-filled book. It is about the Middle Ages, and what life was like then. There is a lot of rich description and I learned a lot from it about the Middle Ages. However, the plot was not very entertaining and at times hard to follow. The story is about a girl named Aethelflaed, who goes on a journey to the kingdom of her betrothed. I found that the storyline its self left a lot to be wanted. In conclusion, this book has many facts and descriptions, but is the type of book that will make your eyes glaze over as you read.

In the historical fiction The Edge on the Sword, Flaed is betrothed to Ethelred. The auther, Rebecca Tingle, Shows how she thinks about what Flaed's childhood was like as she finds out about her inedivable marriage. I recommend this book for groups because this book has many twists and turns as Flaed is suddenly fighting for her life.

This book is about the exciting journy of the king's daughter,Flaed, as she makes her way to Mercia to be married to her father's friend and ally, Ethelred. When she first finds out about her bethrodal from her father, she is given a gaurd, Red. He is a quiet and seemingly mysterious man. In the beginning Flaed greatly dislikes her watchful gaurd, and even tries run away from his constantly watching eye. This is a book with a slow begininng but picks up in the end. It's a satisfying book for book groups because it has lots of topics to discuss and may be confusing and is nice to have others input. It is a nice book for people who can read through slow beginnings.
