This was an interesting book about how and why a person would start a business and the responsibility that comes with it. Yvon Chouinard comes from the perspective of an environmentalist which adds a dynamic to the narrative that a lot of businesses are trying to achieve in todays often green washed landscape. There is a sincerity in his words that comes across as compassion for both the environment and the people he works with that makes the story of Patagonia so compelling.

At times the story does drift into the realm of Seinfeld reruns as Chouinard waxes poetic like the character J. Peterman about finding the most adorable flip-flops in a small village in the rainforested foothills of the Andes, but overall it is an insightful look at business.
