About the Author

William Cope Moyers, a former newspaper journalist and writer for CNN in St. Paul, Minnesota, is the vice president for external affairs at the Hazelden Foundation in Minnesota.

Katherine Ketcham has coauthored thirteen books, eight on the subject of drugs, addiction, and recovery.

This begins as a typical "junkie gets clean story," but it is redeemed by the powerful connection that the author has to his parents, especially his father - the acclaimed journalist, Bill Moyers. The author shares many thoughtful and touching letters that he received from his father, both before he became addicted to crack cocaine and during his recoveries and relapses and finally his successful rehabilitation. I enjoyed the heartfelt portrayal of a relationship between a father and his son that was sometimes stained to the point of almost breaking, but never completely severed. This story is above all else a testament to the love a father has for his son.
