You want to catch the lion, first you tether the goat.

On holiday in Mykonos, Charlie wants only sunny days and a brief escape from England's bourgeois dreariness. Then a handsome stranger lures the aspiring actress away from her pals-but his intentions are far from romantic. Joseph is an Israeli intelligence officer, and Charlie has been wooed to flush out the leader of a Palestinian terrorist group responsible for a string of deadly bombings. Still uncertain of her own allegiances, she debuts in the role of a lifetime as a double agent in the "theatre of the real."

Haunting and deeply atmospheric, John le Carré's The Little Drummer Girl is a virtuoso performance and a powerful examination of morality and justice.

I saw the movie back in the 80s during the time time in which the story is set. I recently decided to read the book, and I wished I had done it sooner. The theme of the book is as relevant today as it was when it was written. Intelligence operatives working to thwart terrorists by recruiting the coffeehouse radical actress to play a part in the "theater of the real" in order to catch an illusive head of a terrorist network. Doing so will prevent military action on the part of their government, which will in effect save many more lives than simply stopping the terror bombings. A thinking in person's adventure story. Get immersed in the world of international spys vs terrorists. Not one of Le Carre best known, but it should be.
