I am an avid fan of Patricia Cornwell, and have read every book prior to this in order. You really have to read them in order, as the plot builds and continues from one book to another in many cases. I usually read the hardback the day it comes out; however, I downloaded Scarpetta onto my I-Pod to listen to on the way to Washington D.C. with a layover in Charlotte, and I was so absorbed I almost missed my connecting flight!
