This is an old (if not first) edition that has just been updated in the last year. In 1974, when Ms. Gerhardt wrote this book, life in Russia was incomprehensible and also hidden fom the publiic eye. Here, she covers traditions, modes of travel, going to the store (which is easier now, thank goodness). I actually keep my 1974 copy for reference at all times and soon will be adding the newest version which is very much updated to current Russian life. You can't be sorry for buying the old as well as the new as there is so much change and transition between them just as Russia has changed and garnered new traditions since Yeltsyn and Putin.
