Publisher Comments:

This book is renowned for being the book to own if you want to understand lighting!

This is better than all the other how-to books on the market which just provide set examples for photographers to follow. Light-- Science and Magic provides photographers with a comprehensive theory of the nature and principles of light to allow individual photographers to use lighting to express their own creativity. It will show you how to light the most difficult subjects such as surfaces, metal, glass, liquids, extremes (black-on-black and white-on-white), and people.

With more information specific for digital photographers, a brand new chapter on equipment, much more information on location lighting, and more on photographing people, you'll see why this is one of the only recommended books by www.strobist.com.

* THE lighting book for serious photographers

* The only book that covers theory and physics of light

* Full of brand new info, specific to digital photography

* Loaded with new and inspiring full color photographs

"If you are a photographer of any type, especially on who does studio work, this is a must have reference." - BC Books (May 2007) "The first book on photographic lighting that is worth using as a text. Light - Science and Magic is about principles, not cheap tricks or the authors' portfolio." -Pete Christman, Savannah College of Art and Design.

"I've found Light Science and Magic to be an invaluable tool." -www.Pointsinfocus.com

"This is the indispensable guide to photographic lighting for photographers at all stages of their craft." -Professional Photographer Magazine "I believe Light: Science & Magic should be a part of every serious photographer's library, and I feel strongly about it." -www.Photofidelity.com

I consider this the best book I have read on lighting. It is written in a clear style, has exercises to take you step-by-step into using light in different ways, and explains the nature of light in a way that is understandable to me. The chapter on the arsenal of lights has proven invaluable since most of my experience had been shooting outdoors, not in the studio. The chapter explains the use of main, fill, hair, rim, background lights and kickers, and also reviews using window light and sunlight. One of the best aspects of the book is that it is a "how-to" book. Various techniques are suggested and illustrated with drawings showing camera and light placement. Photographs show the results of certain suggested efforts.
