Synopses & ReviewsBook News Annotation:In 1935, Frederica De Laguna (emerita, anthropology, Bryn Mawr
College) visited Native villages in the middle and lower Yukon River
valley as part of a larger archaeological expedition. Together with
her assistant, she recorded in handwriting a number of Alaskan Indian
tales. This volume presents 41 tales transcribed from the narrators'
own words. Introductory chapters provide background information on
Dena culture and religion. Woodcut engravings by Alaska artist Dale
DeArmond illustrate the stories.
