Synopses & Reviews

Book News Annotation:

Art collector and philanthropist Anne Hauberg is honored in this handsome oversize volume (11.25x11.25"), illustrated with many photos of her life and the works she engendered, including the Pilchuck Glass School and the Pilot School for Neurologically Impaired Children (now the Experimental Education Unit at the U. of Washington). In addition to these major projects, Johns' text describes many others, including how Hauberg fought billboard blight, campaigned for a green space to cap the freeway through Seattle, and was an energetic advocate for artists and artisans in Seattle, particularly through the 1960s and 1970s.
