Book News Annotation:

This text accompanies an exhibition by the same name, slated to appear at six museums in Washington, Oregon, and British Columbia between April 2006 and September 2008. Following an introductory overview of the river and its history, the material is organized into four chapters focusing on subsequent sections of the Columbia, from the Pacific Ocean to Columbia Lake. Guest curator and author Layman has combined striking b&w photographs, dating from the 1880s to 2003, with maps, poetry and written excerpts from 25 regional writers and historians to create a beautiful portrait of the Columbia River.
