Synopses & Reviews

Publisher Comments:

This is a book for low budgets and high ambition. Read it and you will learn how to put images of things onto other things. You will start by rolling up your sleeves. Your shirt will be stained anyways. At some point, you will harness the power of the sun.

Go ahead, look inside. You will see that you do not need a fancy studio to print a T-shirt or a picnic blanket. There is no specialized machine required to print anything you want in any room you want. A mural, a dartboard, a deck of cards, these are all possible.

In a week or a month, you will wake up to find you know words like acetate and substrate. You will be comfortable talking about ink and shopping at military supply stores. Perhaps most important of all, you will be printing images of things onto other things.

A book for low budgets and high ambition from the founder of Yellow Owl Workshop, Print Workshop leads readers through a crash-course on printing everything from t-shirts to playing cards, with techniques, materials, and surfaces that can be used from home.

Synopsis:

Frog princes, VW buses, and big bad wolvesand#151;these are the sorts of subjects that Heather Ross depicts on the fabrics she designs, which the sewing and quilting communities feverishly collect (with many fabrics going for huge sums on eBay once they sell out at traditional retail outlets). In Heather Ross Prints, a book-and-DVD package, Ross shares reproducible artwork for more than 50 of her most popular prints. She provides step-by-step instructions for 20 craft projects using the prints on the DVDand#151;everything from sea turtle stationery to a shower curtain covered with swirling mermaids. Crafters can use the artwork on the DVD as they wish, printing on fabric, paper, or whatever surface they choose. Plus, Ross teaches her process for designing fabric using Photoshopand#151;a boon to anyone who has ever dreamed of following in her footsteps.

As someone who has studied traditional printmaking, I am grateful for Christine's user-friendly and much-easier suggestions for producing quality works at home. The projects inside look great, and I'm looking forward to trying them out with my 6-year-old!

This is a wonderful book for gaining experience with the art of printmaking--low budgets, lack of access to a printmaking studio, lack of space, age of participants--none of these are obstacles any more!

Thanks again, Christine!
