Diagnosed with diabetes at age 12, Bernstein, formerly an engineer, became an MD and developed a program for diabetic blood sugar normalization based on blood sugar metering and a low-carb diet. Most diabetes books either give nutrition advice on avoiding full-blown diabetes, or contain info on contending with the disease once you have it. But "Diabetes Solution" is by far the most comprehensive guide out there. As a naturopathic doctor I have used it as the foundation for my diabetes care with a great deal of success. What could be more inspiring than a man's personal success at managing such a disease? Bernstein's uncompromising adherence to the goal of normal blood sugars for diabetics can be difficult to reach, but this book really reveals the stark difference between books that promise "cures" for pre-diabetics and one that takes the disease seriously. Indispensable and fascinating, it is literally a one-volume encyclopedia.
