Publisher Comments:

For over twenty years, Donald and Lillian Stokes have been among America's most popular authorities on birds and wildlife, with more than 2 million copies sold of their classic Stokes Nature Guides and Stokes Backyard Nature Books. Now the Stokeses have drawn upon their life's work to produce field guides that are factually, visually, and organizationally superior to any other books you can buy. You'll find:
  • Accurate identification in one easy step, with all the information you need on a single page - color photographs, range map, and detailed description. No more fumbling to match photos with text!
  • A compact alphabetical index inside the front and back covers for speedy reference.
  • An illustrated Quick Guide to the most common backyard and feeder birds
  • Fast-access colored tabs keyed to each bird group.
  • The most detailed and comprehensive descriptions available anywhere, with information on male, female, seasonal, and immature plumages, as well as feeding, nesting, behavior, habitat, voice, birdhouse and bird feeder proclivity, and - for the first time in any guide - population trends and conservation status.
  • More than 900 high-resolution color identification photographs.
  • Special Learning Pages - four-color spreads for beginning birders, providing identification pointers and facts about the major bird groups.

Stokes Field Guide to Birds: Western Region covers the western portions of Texas, Oklahoma, Kansas, Nebraska, South Dakota, North Dakota, Manitoba, Northwest Territories, and all other states and provinces to the west.

I love this book because of the color photos for identification. Not only that, but it has a section on each bird for conservation efforts, which makes the reading interesting. This is the best birding book for Westerns'... Pick it up!
