Publisher Comments:

For more than twenty years, in nearly a score of bestselling crime novels, New York Times bestselling author Stephen Whites stories of Boulder psychologist Alan Gregory have captivated millions of readers. Now Compound Fractures provides a riveting last chapter to the series.

In Line of Fire, the tantalizing prelude to this final book, Dr. Gregory found himself assailed by danger from every direction as he struggled with circumstances beyond his control. Authorities were closing in on Alan and his friend Sam Purdy for their role in a womans death years earlier. Alan was struggling to deal with the emotional collapse of his longtime friend Diane after she discovered evidence of her husbands infidelity.

By the end, Alans personal life and his career were in danger of complete collapse.

But Line of Fire merely set the stage. In Compound Fractures, the explosive conclusion to the decades-long saga, Alan is forced to acknowledge that the perils that may bring him to his knees are not the dangers he recognizes, nor are they orchestrated by the nemesis he has long feared. Instead he is confronted by unexpected threats from unanticipated adversaries and by intimate betrayal from those who have been closest to him. He is compelled to reconsider what he has long believed about trust and about love while he is trying to cope with overwhelming loss and grief.

To protect himself he must revisit the cruel ethical dilemma that turned his life upside down as a young psychologist. He has to judge whether the people reentering his life after long absences are friends or foes. He has to make sense of echoes of distant tragedies while he decides if there is anyone he can really trust. Mostly, as the clock ticks down, he must solve a deadly mystery in Eldorado Springs that has been brewing for more than a decade.

At times full of pathos, at other times replete with Whites distinctive wry humor, Compound Fractures delivers the entrancing characters, the suspense, the intricately plotted storylines, and the unexpected twists that readers have come to expect.

Compound Fractures promises to be a jaw-dropping and satisfying last act in Stephens beloved series.

Review:

"Deputy Chief Weinberg assigns LAPD Lt. Milo Sturgis a particularly sensitive murder case at the outset of bestseller Kellerman's smooth if routine 25th Alex Delaware novel (after Evidence). Elise Freeman, a teacher and tutor at exclusive Windsor Preparatory Academy in Brentwood, is found dead in her Studio City apartment in a bathtub full of dry ice. Despite Elise's having left a DVD accusing three fellow teachers at the academy of repeated sexual harassment, Weinberg wants (for personal reasons) the investigation to involve the school as little as possible. As usual, psychologist Alex Delaware takes an active role in the investigation, which finds the victim had lots to hide. A boyfriend, students, teachers, and administrators are all anxious to keep those secrets hidden — and at least one of them is willing to kill again. Milo and Alex form an odd but effective duo as they trade banter and insights while sorting out the lies and deceptions." Publishers Weekly (Copyright Reed Business Information, Inc.)

Synopsis:

Soon after a woman implicates a trio of teachers from an exclusive school as the perpetrators of her abuse, she is found dead. Detective Milo Sturgis calls on Alex Delaware for help, and soon the two find themselves embarking on a dark and twisted investigation.

Synopsis:

Just when readers think Jonathan Kellerman has taken his spellbinding tales of mystery and psychological suspense to the limit, with "Deception" he takes a bold leap into terrifying and uncharted new territory.

Synopsis:

Masterly storytelling and expert insight into the darkest of human compulsions make #1 New York Times bestselling author Jonathan Kellerman’s Alex Delaware novels as compelling as they are addictive. And just when you think he has taken his spellbinding tales of mystery and psychological suspense to the limit, with Deception he takes a bold leap into terrifying and uncharted new territory.

Her name is Elise Freeman, and her chilling cry for help—to whoever may be listening—comes too late to save her. On a DVD found near her lifeless body, the emotionally and physically battered woman chronicles a year-and-a-half-long ordeal of monstrous abuse at the hands of three sadistic tormentors. But even more shocking than the lurid details is the revelation that the offenders, like their victim, are teachers at one of L.A.’s most prestigious prep schools. With Elise now dead by uncertain means, homicide detective Milo Sturgis is assigned to probe the hallowed halls of Windsor Prep Academy. And if ever he could use Dr. Alex Delaware’s psychological prowess, it’s now.

From the get-go, this case promises to be an uphill climb for truth and a down and dirty fight for justice. Allegations of rape, assault, and possibly murder at this esteemed institution renowned for molding Ivy Leaguers make for a social and political time bomb—especially given that one of the students has connections high up in City Hall. As the scandal-conscious elite of L.A. close ranks around Windsor Prep, Alex and Milo must penetrate the citadel of wealth and scholarship to expose the hidden anguish, dirty secrets, and deadly sins festering among society’s manor-born. But power and position are not easily surrendered, for that’s when the best and the brightest turn brutal and ugly. Searching for predators among the privileged, Alex and Milo may well be walking into a highly polished death trap.

Dr. KELLERMAN IS "BACK ON TRACK" WRITING AN EXCELLENT BOOK DEALING WITH MANY OF TODAYS PROBLEMS. IT COUNSELS ON DRUGS, TEEN AGE ATHLETES AND THE PARENTAL AND PEER PRESURE THAT THEY DEAL WITH, AND THE PROBLEMS THAT "MILO" DEALS WITH EVERY DAY. ALSO, THE PROBLEMS OF THE CONSTANT CHASE TO HAVE MORE SEX AND MONEY THAN ANYONE ELSE. THIS BOOK IS THE KIND OF MYSTERY I LOVE WITH AN EXCELLENT STORY LINE AND GOOD ADVICE. THANKS FOR THE PLEASURE THAT GOOD BOOKS YOU OFFER TO ME. MAGGIE
