Although this is generally considered an unfinished ms. I see his suicide on 1/7/1972 as the conclusion of the book. It is my belief that the book should be considered his memoir rather than a work of fiction. "The Dream Songs" are more fictional then "Recovery". Much of the books reads like reportage on actual events rather then the product of an author's imagination This is an excellent example of truth being more persuasive than fiction.
