Publisher Comments:

Ian Fleming, best known for his James Bond novels, wrote only one childrens bookand it is a classic! Chitty Chitty Bang Bang is the name of the flying, floating, driving-by-itself automobile that takes the Pott family on a riotous series of adventures as they try to capture a notorious gang of robbers. This is a story filled with humor, adventure, and gadgetry that only a genius like Fleming could create.

From the Hardcover edition.

About the Author

Ian Fleming was born in 1908. After extensive studies, he joined Reuters News Service in 1929 and was stationed in London, Berlin, and Moscow. During World War II, he spent several years in the British Intelligence Service, which well prepared him to create the enigmatic 007, and the fantasmic auto, Chitty.

You'll be happy that you added this classic to your read-a-loud collection. Fleming writes in a wonderful rhythm spiced with British phrases that makes it almost impossible not to read the story in a British accent. The Potts family is instantly likable:

"But the Potts were a happy family who all enjoyed their lives and since they were not in the least sorry that they had no motorcar to go whirling about in, we need not be sorry for them either."

When Commander Potts, inventor and adventurer, salvages an old Paragon Panther racing car you just know that this family is in for a grand adventure.
Ian Fleming incorporates the same brand of intrigue, adventure and creative gadgetry that he uses in his Bond series into his one and only children's book.
