About the Author

JENNIFER L. HOLM's great-grandmother emigrated from the Bahamas to Key West in 1897. Jennifer is the  author of two Newbery Honor Books, Our Only May Amelia and Penny from Heaven. She is also the author of several other highly praised books, including Middle School Is Worse Than Meatloaf, and the Babymouse series which she collaborates on with her brother Matthew Holm. Turtle in Paradise is a very sweet, funny look at a strong, flawed and loving family in depression era Key West Florida. Turtle arrives to live with the aunt and cousins she's never met and learns that they are quirky, tough and enterprising. While spending her days with her cousins, Turtle discovers a love for adventure, a strong creative work ethic, and the ability to adapt to new surroundings. Turtle, and her cousins, reminded me of Tom Sawyer and Scout Finch - without the dark side of Adventures of Tom Sawyer or To Kill A Mockingbird.
