A young adult novel that appeals to adults, Tender Morsels is a nightmare fairytale story of redemption that will reach across your subconscious much like Jeanette Winterson's work. Lanagan's prose is delightfully crafted, careful, imaginative, and cryptic — but blessedly void of moral musings. Recommended by Mary Z., Powells.com
Roughly based on the fairy tale Snow White and Rose Red, Ruth Lanagan's Tender Morsels is a dark, rich, and powerful must-read fantasy novel. A compelling and challenging read, Tender Morsels is not for the faint-hearted, but if you think you're up to the challenge, then you definitely should give it a go. Winner of multiple awards, Tender Morsels is recommended for readers age 14 and up. Recommended by Sheila N., Powell's City of Books

Publisher Comments:
Tender Morsels is a dark and vivid story, set in two worlds and worrying at the border between them. Liga lives modestly in her own personal heaven, a world given to her in exchange for her earthly life. Her two daughters grow up in this soft place, protected from the violence that once harmed their mother. But the real world cannot be denied forever—magicked men and wild bears break down the borders of Liga’s refuge. Now, having known Heaven, how will these three women survive in a world where beauty and brutality lie side by side?
Margo Lanagan’s story collection, Red Spikes, was a Publishers Weekly Best Book and a Horn Book Fanfare, and Black Juice was a Printz Honor Book. She lives in Sydney, Australia.

I originally chose to read this book because it was band from a feminist young adult must read list. A great read. Provocative, digging into our emotions about relationships, abuse, revenge and true happiness.
