Publisher Comments:

Prosecuting attorney in the Manson trial, Vincent Bugliosi held a unique insider's position in one of the most baffling and horrifying cases of the twentieth century: the cold-blooded Tate-LaBianca murders carried out by Charles Manson and four of his followers. What motivated Manson in his seemingly mindless selection of victims, and what was his hold over the young women who obeyed his orders? Here is the gripping story of this famous and haunting crime.

Both Helter Skelter and Vincent Bugliosi's subsequent Till Death Us Do Part won Edgar Allan Poe Awards for best true-crime book of the year.

Synopsis:

A national bestseller--over 7 million copies sold. "[A] social document of rare importance."--The New Republic.

If nothing else, read this book for the opening line, one of the best...ever.
And the reader feels they are living in Los Angeles as the Summer of Love is ending and a scarier, uglier time is beginning.

And it should be required reading for aspiring prosecutors.

I first came across this book when I was staying at my grandma's cabin for the summer. I knew Charles Manson had something to do with murder, but thats about it. So I started reading, not knowing what I was getting myslef into. For the next week, I spent most of my time reading and going back and reading parts again so i totally understood what was happening. After I finished the book, I went from knowing little, to knowing almost everything there was to know about the Manson Family, the muders, and the trials. I recommend this to anyone who likes non-fiction, because reading it and knowing it all really happened, makes it that much more creepy, which makes it impossible to put down.
