Publisher Comments:

How short can a story be and still truly be a story? This volume of 75 very short fictions, none more than 750 words in length, demonstrates that less can be more. Here are short pieces by masters such as Raymond Carver, Margaret Atwood, and Tim O'Brien, as well as fiction by newer talents.

Flash fiction indeed! What an excellent anthology of exceptionally short but deeply powerful stories. I've read many of them several times, simply to unpeel the complexity each of the writers has folded into each of these compelling shorties.

A true test of well crafted fiction is to be left thinking about the story or the characters long after reading. This has been the case for me for stories within this antholody such as Dan O'Brien's "Crossing Spider Creek", or "Stockings" by Tim O'Brien, Mary Morris' "Haircut", or Julia Alvarez's "Snow". Each one shocking, brilliant in its brief vision, and so humanly evocative to keep you awake wondering about the subtleties and complexities.

My copy is well worn around the edges and is frequently loaned to someone wanting "a good read".
