About the Author

Linda Hogan was a finalist for the Pulitzer Prize for her novel Mean Spirit. Her other honors include an American Book Award and a Guggenheim Fellowship. She lives in Tishomingo, Oklahoma.

It seems that personal ethics have gone by the wayside. Hogan's narrative travels beyond the conflict between functioning in the modern world and accepting inherent traditions. The story invites the reader on a journey to assess personal values, and how the path one takes can force a person not to ignore, but rather to confront ethical decisions encountered along the way.
Good novels raise more questions than answers: Hogan fulfills this requirement with text that is both elegant and stoic, challenging her readers to walk away wondering where they might fit into two worlds.
