Dispatches is a MUST read for anyone who wants to experience hell in the foxhole and surreal nature of the Vietnam conflict. Michael Herr, who also wrote the narration to Apocalypse Now, writes so compellingly that most Vietnam Vets cannot finish the book. It is a book that will change your thinking about the nature of war, particularly one focused on fighting insurgencies. It is, in short, a very powerful statement against the wonton use of military power!
