About the Author

Hans Augusto Rey was born in Hamburg, Germany in 1898. As a child, he spent much of his free time in that city's famous Hagenbeck Zoo drawing animals. After serving in the army during World War I, he studied philology and natural science at the University of Hamburg. He then married Margret Rey and they moved to Montmartre for four years. The manuscript for the first Curious George books was one of the few items the Reys carried with them on their bicycles when they escaped from Paris in 1940. Eventually, they made their way to the United States, and Curious George was published in 1941. Curious George has been published in many languages, including French, German, Japanese, Afrikaans, and Norwegian. Additional Curious George books followed, as well as such other favorites as CECILY G. AND THE NINE MONKEYS and FIND THE CONSTELLATIONS.

This is my bible of the night sky. I could never quite figure out how the figures of the constellations until I read this book. Suddenly, the dots connected and looking at the stars became much easier. There are explanations of the mythology behind the names, calendar charts, and hemisphere focus. This is the foundation for my porch viewings, when the neighborhood lights go dim and stargazing becomes brighter to the eye. Starry, starry night.

I am a beginner in the star gazing hobby, and i have found the traditional drawings of the constellations to be obscure at best. By using this book and the easy to "see" and "understand" drawings, it was a snap for even my youngest child to find in the sky. I cannot recommend this book more highly. HOWEVER, my copy is now too old, and doesnt show the positions of the current constellations. I would love it, if the publisher updated the maps. For now i intend to take the poorly draw scribbles from the paper and super-impose the authors drawings to make better sense. If you are a beginner or advanced star gazer, H.A. Reys constellations make MUCH more sense than the traditional versions.
