Publisher Comments:

Once there was a little doll. Her name was Edith. She lived in a nice house and had everything she needed except someone to play with. She was lonely! Then one morning Edith looked into the garden and there stood two bears!

Since it was first published in 1957, The Lonely Doll has established itself as a unique children's classic. Through innovative photography Dare Wright brings the world of dolls to life and entertains us with much more than just a story. Edith, the star of the show, is a doll from Wright's childhood, and Wright selected the bear family with the help of her brother. With simple poses and wonderful expressions, the cast of characters is vividly brought to life to tell a story of friendship.

Review:

"The text's stately, formal tone is matched by the illustrations — black-and-white photos that combine narrative information and strong if dated design." Hornbook Guide to Children

This was one of my favorite books as a child. I cannot count how many times I read this book. I remember reading it over and over and over again. I am sorry that I did not keep it. I plan to buy copies for my granddaughters. I hope they will enjoy it as much as I did.

Hi,
My name is Jill, as a little girl I loved this book. I am an only child and now understand why I loved this book so much. I can still remember how I loved the pink checked cover. I have never actually owned this book, but my memory's of sittling down in my tiny little home town library in Nortch Collins NY looking at this book, is by far one of my few childhood memory's I treasure till this day.
If my memory serves me correctly and can remember one specific page with the little girl and her stuffed bear on a window seat. I'm glad I got the chance to write about somthing so small but yet so big.....
Thanks to Dare Wright.....you made my childhood a little better....
Very Truly Yours,
Jill Noecker
p.s. If my memory serves me correctly I also believe there was another book similiar with a red checked cover.
