One cruel night, Meggie's father reads aloud from a book called Inkheart — and an evil ruler escapes the boundaries of fiction and lands in their living room. Suddenly, Meggie is smack in the middle of the kind of adventure she has only read about in books. Meggie must learn to harness the magic that has conjured this nightmare. For only she can change the course of the story that has changed her life forever. This is Inkheart — a timeless tale about books, about imagination, about life. Dare to read it aloud.

Cornelia Funke is a bestselling author and the third most popular children's book writer in Germany after J.K. Rowling and R.L. Stine. Her first book, The Thief Lord, has won several European children's literature awards, including the Zurich Childrens Book Award (2000) and the Children's Book Award from the Vienna House of Literature (2001).

Although this is a childrens book, I found the imagery fascinating. Cornelia Funke is a writer of wonderful books, and this is the first in the series ABOUT books, wizards, witches and more. Scary plots, daring escapes, and magical rescuers turn up in this book. I recommend the whole series!

This three-book series: Inheart, Inkspell, and Inkdeath is excellent. If you are going through Harry Potter withdrawal, you can get a fix with this series.

The magical world Meggie finds is beautiful and dangerous, and I love the combination. She is smart and courageous, and her relationship with her father is so endearing. I love books about books, and I couldn't put it down.
