Synopses & Reviews

Publisher Comments:

Veronika. Caroline. Isobel. Eleanor. One blond, one brunette, one redhead, one with hair black as tar. Four otherwise identical girls who spend their days in sync, tasked to learn. But when May, a very different kind of girl—the lone survivor of a recent shipwreck—suddenly and mysteriously arrives on the island, an unsettling mirror is about to be held up to the life the girls have never before questioned.

Sly and unsettling, Gordon Dahlquist’s timeless and evocative storytelling blurs the lines between contemporary and sci-fi with a story that is sure to linger in readers’ minds long after the final page has been turned.

I hate this book, I'm sorry. It's extremely boring, and the summry is what the whole thing is about. I like the author, but this is by far the worst book I've read.

Whoa. A totally strange, engaging science fiction novel. Eva is a thirteen-year-old girl who wakes up from a coma to find that she has been in a terrible accident. In an attempt to save her life, her brain (but not her physical brain, more like her neural footprint or something) has been transplanted into the body of a chimpanzee. Eva still retains all of her old memories, but she has also gained many of the instincts of her chimp host. It sounds like fodder for a late-night B movie, but in Dickinson's capable hands it becomes a moving story about change and loss.

I think this was a really good book and really interesting because it was written in the '80's and shows what they expected the future to be like. I loved this book and have read it twice.
