Publisher Comments:

From the New York Times bestselling author of Sunshine and The Outlaws of Sherwood-now in trade paperback.

This is the story of Harry Crewe, the Homelander orphan girl who became Harimad- sol, King's Rider, and heir to the Blue Sword, Gonturan, that no woman had wielded since the Lady Aerin herself bore it into battle.

This is a beautiful story of romance and adventure, set in a rich landscape with a fascinating culture. Robin McKinley is a fantastic author, she always comes up with wondrous new worlds, and I consider Damar to be one of her greatest creations.

As Daria's sands shift, so does the strange connection the country has to the more solid world that Harry Crewe came from. Orphaned, she goes to Daria to live with her aunt, Lady Amilia, and her uncle, Sir Charles who is the reluctant governor of Daria. Daria's nomadic Hillfolk people, with their strange language and customs, beautiful horses and inherent magic, fight an unheralded war with a demonic foe, a war and foe completely invisible (until now) to the staid and unaware real world that Harry leaves behind. Kidnapped by Daria's Prince Corlath of the Hillfolk for reasons even he can't explain, Harry, or Harimad-sol as she comes to be called by the Hillfolk, has connections to this wild land and its magic that go beyond her understanding, or that of her captor. And she has a role to play that will save both the mythic world of Daria and her Hillfolk, and the more solid English world that believes Daria is just an uneasy, challenging principality over the border.

Newbury Award winning author, Robin McKinley gives us a classic that can be read over and over. My two worn copies sit above my desk with my well-used copies of Lord of the Rings, Dune, and Riddle of Stars (Patricia McKillip) and though I can't tell you how many times I've read The Blue Sword, I can assure you it's been at least every other year for the last three decades and I will likely read it many more times. This is Robin McKinley at her finest, and she is always delightful to read, no matter what she writes about.
