I love this series and couldn't wait for the third installment, Iron Kissed. It was well worth the wait! Mercy is a kick-ass hero who takes no prisoners and just happens to be a shape-shifting mechanic living in a world of werewolves, vampires, and other magical creatures. Briggs's characters are original and entertaining, and she weaves a magical world that is not only believable, but also fascinating. Iron Kissed finds Mercy knee-deep in fae (fairy) politics and intrigue as she tries save a friend from execution for a crime he couldn't have committed. The ending includes a huge payoff for those of us wondering who Mercy's heart really belongs to — making Iron Kissed the best yet in the series.

Synopses & Reviews

Publisher Comments:

When her former boss and mentor is arrested for murder, its up to shape-shifting car mechanic Mercy Thompson to clear his name, whether he wants her to or not. And she'll have to choose between the two werewolves in her life — whether she wants to or not.

Review:

"Shape-shifter Mercy Thompson has a complex life, juggling two werewolf lovers and a job working for a fae mechanic; things get even more hectic when her boss and mentor is arrested for killing a citizen of the fae reservation. As the fae seem content to let him rot, Thompson takes it on herself to clear her friend's name, beginning a lone-wolf investigation that may cost her life. Briggs's third novel featuring Thompson (after Blood Bound) is another top-notch paranormal mystery; her well-balanced contemporary world, where humans live uneasily among werewolves and fae, is still a believably lived-in world; the ever-present threat of government legislation against nonhumans (though familiar to X-Men fans) adds weight to her paranormal elements, and thoughtfully researched mythology adds rich detail. Thompson is a sharp, strong heroine and her lycanthropic love triangle is honest and steamy. Briggs never shies from difficult material, and she moves effortlessly from werewolf pack psychology to human legal proceedings, making this a tense, nimble, crowd-pleasing page-turner." Review:

"In the increasingly crowded field of kick-ass supernatural heroines, Mercy stands out as one of the best." Locus

I thoroughly enjoyed this book (# 3 in the Mercy Thompson books).

Patricia Briggs used her words to good effect, as usual. Something horrible happens to Mercy, and the way she handles it is so believable, it breaks your heart.

The narrative is written well, the dialogue is good, there's a nice twist in there, and I found myself getting so pissed at the old fae (Mercy's former boss)with the way he behaves to Mercy, and yet Mercy's character made it understandable (the way of the fae). Patricia Briggs has surpassed herself with this book.

Mercedes Thompson is one of those characters who stays with you long after you have finished the book. The loyalty between Mercy and her friends, the romantic tension of an inter-species love triangle, and the mysterious world of the fae...all come together in one exciting read. I recommend reading these books in order so you don't miss one juicy moment!

Easily the best in this series, and thats saying alot, the first two were standout books. Though vampires do not make an appearance in this one, we are finally given more detail about the world of the Fae and their lives on the fae reservation. For those of us that have been reading since the first book, there is some resolution to an ongoing situation in the storyline. Fans of Charlaine Harris and Kim Harrison are sure to love this series!
