"I fell in love with Crosby, Stills, and Nash's song 'Southern Cross' when I was fifteen. By the time I got to college, 'I'm going to sail around the world someday' was sort of my pickup line." Continue »

Magic Burns: Kate Daniels Series #2

Magic Burns: Kate Daniels Series #2 Cover

Staff Pick

Ilona Andrews is one of my favorite new urban fantasy authors. Instead of creating a "romance" novel parading around disguised as urban fantasy, Andrews creates an extraordinary alternate universe filled with interesting characters, curious creatures, and a truly strong-willed, kick-butt heroine. If you like Patricia Briggs or Kelley Armstrong, you will love Magic Burns. Andrews weaves suspense and magic, creating a book that is hard to put down.

Synopses & Reviews

Publisher Comments:

As a mercenary who cleans up after magic gone wrong, Kate Daniels knows how waves of paranormal energy ebb and flow across Atlanta like a tide. But once every seven years, a flare comes, a time when magic runs rampant. When Kate sets out to retrieve a set of stolen maps for the Pack, Atlanta's paramilitary clan of shape shifters, she quickly realizes much more is at stake. The stolen maps are only the opening gambit in an epic tug of war between two gods hoping for rebirth, and if Kate can't stop the cataclysmic showdown, the city may not survive.

Review:

"Fans of urban fantasy will delight in Ilona Andrews' alternate-universe Atlanta."Fresh Fiction

Synopsis:

In the second book in the Kate Daniels series, Atlanta is threatened by a magic tsunami: monsters rise, magic runs deep, and a little girl is hunted by demons.

I hope this character lives a very long literary life.

I live in Atlanta - so, this alternate view of the city was truly fascinating and very, very believable.

The story will keep you "plugged in" and vibrating to its end.

Don't miss this author! She is truly one of the best.

This is a great book! Non-stop action, but there was still a great deal of character development and relationship building in the story. The bad guys were creepy and the action intense. The setting is eerie and filled with a sense of magic and the fantastic. Kate is a great heroine who is both strong and vulnerable and her cast of supporting characters are good enough to steal the show. I highly recommend this book and it's predecessor, Magic Bites. The third book is due next year and already, I can't wait!!!
