Synopses & Reviews

Publisher Comments:

From Jacqueline Carey, New York Times-bestselling author of Kushiel's Scion and Kushiel's Justice, comes the final adventure in the Imriel Trilogy.

Having paid dearly for ignoring Elua's edict to love as thou wilt, Imriel and Sidonie have finally come forward to publicly confess their love for each other — only to watch the news ignite turmoil throughout the land. Those who are old enough cannot forget the misdeeds of Imriel's mother, Melisande, whose self-serving lies plunged their country into war.

In order to quell the uprising, Queen Ysandre hands down a decree: she will not divide the lovers, but neither will she acknowledge them. And if they decide to marry, Sidonie will be disinherited.

That is, unless Imriel can find his mother and bring her back to Terre D'Ange to be executed for treason....

Review:

"In this vivid conclusion to the second Kushiel trilogy (after 2007's Kushiel's Justice), young Prince Imriel and his beloved, Sidonie, heir to the Terre D'Ange throne, struggle to come to terms with the deaths of Imriel's wife and unborn son. Queen Ysandre threatens to forbid Imriel's marriage to Sidonie unless he hunts down his traitorous mother, Melisande. Then a spell convinces everyone in Terre D'Ange's capital that Sidonie loves the prince of Carthage, and she sails off to wed him. Only Imriel remembers their romance. He must evade deluded loved ones and work with erstwhile enemies to rescue Sidonie and pull the country back from the brink of war. Carey delivers a heady mix of adventure, power struggles and romance, but fans of the first Kushiel trilogy may be disappointed by the few appearances of Phdre, Imriel's adoptive mother, and by the relatively tame sexuality, which serves more as a spice than a larger theme. (June)" Publishers Weekly (Copyright Reed Business Information, Inc.)

Review:

"Sensual prose and graphic eroticism make this fantasy saga particularly appealing to fans of Terry Goodkind and Storm Constantine. Highly recommended." Library Journal

Review:

"Battles, great acts of sorcery, deadly sword fights and high-stakes chases over both land and sea will keep book lovers glued to the page as this final novel in the Prince Imriel series races to its rousing conclusion." SciFi.com

I accidently, clicked one star in the previous comment!

If you buy this book, or any of the books in this series beware - putting this book aside, will be almost impossible. Carey is a glorious writer. The characters and story will capture your attention and not let go until the end...and then you will sigh and hope that Carey writes another, in the series.

Kushiel's Mercy is the final book in the second of Ms Carey's "Kushiel" trilogies.

I found this book more enjoyable than the second book in the trilogy centered around Imriel, Kushiel's Justice.

This book is a fantasy, but it's not typical swords and sorcery fantasy, in that there are not duels between wizards and swordsmen on every page.

The center of the novel is Imriel's attempt to be with his beloved Sidonie, who is the heir to the throne of Terre d'Ange. Since Imriel is the child of traitors, this is not acceptable to Sidonie's mother, who will permit Imriel and Sidonie to marry only if Imriel carries out the sentence of death that is outstanding against his mother.
