About the Author
A pediatrician with thirty-two years of experience, Marc Weissbluth, M.D., is also a leading researcher on sleep and children. He founded the original Sleep Disorders Center at Chicago’s Children’s Memorial Hospital and is a professor of clinical pediatrics at Northwestern University School of Medicine. Dr. Weissbluth discovered that sleep is linked to temperament and that sleeping problems are related to infant colic. His landmark seven-year study on the development and disappearance of naps highlighted the importance of daytime sleep. In addition to his own research, he has written about sleep problems in manuals of pediatrics, lectured extensively to parent groups, and appeared on Oprah. Dr. Weissbluth has four sons, two grandsons, and, thankfully, one granddaughter–and they are all good sleepers. Linda, his wife of more than forty years, has provided both inspiration and original ideas for this book.

I got this book when my first child was a newborn. Three children later...this book continues to help. It is specifically written to establish health sleep habits in infants, but addresses all sleep issues through the teenage years. It is based on scientific studies and true cases, not on a theory that sounds right.

We have had this book since my daughter was 6 weeks old and only sleeping 8 out of every 24 hours. The first day we tried the technique she started taking 1/2 hr to hour long naps after only being up one hour at a time. (She was very sleep deprived.) She slept her regular 7 hours that night too. After that she usually slept 12 hours a night (getting up to eat of course!) and sleeps now 13 hours a night (still getting up to eat; she is 4 months old now) and naps every 1 1/2 hours for a half hour at a time.
I think this is an amazing book because every time I want to improve upon her sleep, I look up the problem and it is solved within days. She is the most happiest baby I know. Everyone else notices this too. She was somewhat fussy for her first 6 weeks because of the lack of sleep. Highly, Highly recommend this book, it was a great relief to us as she was not napping at all if I did not hold her before I got this book!
