Synopses & Reviews

Publisher Comments:

Now that his girlfriend has left him, professional wizard Harry Dresden can't pay his rent and alienates his friends. He's soon approached by the Winter Queen of Faerie with an offer he can't refuse — all he has to do is find out who murdered the Summer Queen's right-hand man, the Summer Knight, and clear the Winter Queen's name. Soon, Harry finds out that the fate of the entire world rests on his solving this case.

Synopsis:

Private detective/wizard-for-hire Harry Dresden is suckered into tangling in the affairs of Faerie, where the fate of the entire world — and his soul — are at stake.

About the Author

A martial arts enthusiast whose resume includes a long list of skills rendered obsolete at least two hundred years ago, Jim Butcher turned to writing as a career because anything else probably would have driven him insane. He lives with his wife, son, and ferocious guard dog.

Jim Butcher has done it again. In a thrilling novel about a battle between Winter and Summer, Harry Dresden must once again make the choice to save himself or save the world around him. Now that Susan has left him after almost becoming a vampire in the previous novel, Dresden is left alone. His attempt to find a cure for Susan's problem forces him to make a choice in the end of the novel- one that could destroy the world.

Butcher's version of Faery is an intriguing one, showing that a lot of work has been put into the background of the world that he writes. The Summer and Winter Queens and Knights all have their own separate personalities that make them interesting to read.

I found myself alternating between laughing, gasping, and crying as I read this fourth novel. Harry Dresden, Chicago's only professional wizard, is at it again.
