Publisher Comments:

Sarah Crowe left Atlanta, and the remnants of a tumultuous relationship, to live alone in an old house in rural Rhode Island. Within its walls she discovers an unfinished manuscript written by the house's former tenant-a parapsychologist obsessed with the ancient oak growing on a desolate corner of the property. And as the gnarled tree takes root in her imagination, Sarah risks her health and her sanity to unearth a revelation planted centuries ago...

I simply loved this book. Ms.Kiernan wrote a spooky tales surrounding a real tree. Sarah, the main character in the book is an author and has moved to RI. She is trying to write a new book while living in the middle of now where. She has roommate who lives upstairs who is an artist. The pair go to the tree, but are spooked by what they find there.
At times it seems like they have been walking for hours and the tree is not getting any closer how can this be?
The story has many plot twists and whole book was a thrilling ride that I loved.

I found this book while looking at the "Supernatural" magazine. The cover looked interesting, so I went and found the book. I read the back and knew it was a book I had to read. I read the book and it was a thrilling ride. I had never heard of the author and have since read more of her books.
Caitlin R. Kiernan is a very gifted story teller and her plot twists are on the same level as Stephen King. Aftter reading this book, I didn't want to go into the basement with out my dog for a week. The ending was amazing. I never saw it coming.
Kiernan weaves a wonderful tale and her use of imagery is beautiful.
I do caution you however, if you are easily spooked or are offended by swearing or same sex relationships then this book is not for you. I love it and recommend it to everyone.
