Publisher Comments:

It's a long way from Santo Domingo to the Bronx, but if anyone can go the distance, it's the Garcia girls. Four lively Latinas plunge from a pampered life of privilege on an island compound into the big-city chaos of New York, where they embrace all that America has to offer.

I will recommend this book a thousand times, to any woman I know. Alvarez conveys beautifully every struggle and triumph in the lives of her characters, carrying everything they feel clearly onto her page. All of the characters feel like real human beings, and their lives are so vivid that you really will be put in their shoes. This book will not leave you disappointed.
