Synopses & Reviews

Publisher Comments:

Anita Blake, Vampire Hunter for Animators, Inc., is offered a cool mil to raise a 283-year-old corpse. But she knows that "the older the zombie, the bigger the death needed to raise it". Only a human sacrifice is "big" enough to raise this old soul--and Anita's no murderer.

Synopsis:

Animator and vampire hunter Anita Blake is about to discover that some secrets are better left buried?and some people better off dead?

This is by far my favorite of the Anita Blake books, it's book 2 in the series and is old Anita at her best! I love how much more we learn about the characters in this one.

Yet another wonderfully written book in this series. Anita Blake rocks! This book will give the first glimpse into just how powerful she is...as well as how willing she is to do the wrong thing for the right reason...

This second book with it?s non-stop action is a complete page-turner that kept me gripped until the end, with multiple plots weaving together to lead up to a shocking climax. This time around Anita is in way over her head with a whole cluster of serious problems. A wealthy industrialist wants to pay her one million dollars to raise someone who has been dead for a couple of hundred years and is unwilling to accept that Anita has refused, because the only way to do so requires a human sacrifice. We see more into Anita's past and meet her mentor, which is an incredibly refreshing experience, whilst taking a trip into St. Louis's darker side. There is new interaction between Anita Blake and Jean-Claude the master Vampire of St Louis, although the focus is to a large extent more on her job as an Animator than as the person the vampires call The Executioner. The Laughing Corpse is 95% about zombies and voodoo whereas the first Anita Blake novel was primarily about vampirism, this book focuses on Anita's day-job raising the dead and with the details provided, the idea of zombie-raising sinks in and makes the series even more enjoyable.
I for one can?t wait to read the third instalment of the series!
