Publisher Comments:

Uniquely comprehensive and comparative, praised for its devotion to social and cultural developments as well as politics and economics, The Epic of Latin America is once again revised and brought up to date, with chapters that include the great upheavals of the 1980s.

The book received the Gold Medal of the Commonwealth Club of California for outstanding literary achievement by a California author and was selected by the American Library Association as one of the "fifty best books of the year."

Review:

"Notable...success in establishing certain threads which tie the whole story together in spite of the differences from country to country. This book is an achievement in both narrative and organization." Joseph Henry Jackson, The San Francisco Chronicle

Review:

"Mr. Crow is a powerfully sustained narrator, able to create colorful and astounding visual pictures....It is all one swift, clear adventure in reading, peopled by human beings and not mere types, alive on every page." The Los Angeles Times

Review:

"The best book on Latin America that I have encountered during my forty years experience." Hugh Gibson, former U.S. Ambassador to Brazil

Synopsis:

"The best book on Latin America that I have encountered during my forty years experience."—Hugh Gibson, former U.S. Ambassador to Brazil

"It is must reading not only for the academic world but particularly for responsible business executives and intelligent travelers. Nothing like it has appeared so far and it will make any similar attempts quite unnecessary for years to come."—Julius Klein, former Undersecretary of Commerce, specialist in Latin American affairs
