Publisher Comments:

Harlan Coben follows four consecutive #1 New York Times bestsellers with a stand-alone thriller in the vein of his beloved breakout novels Caught and Hold Tight.

Megan is a suburban soccer mom who once upon a time walked on the wild side. Now she's got two kids, a perfect husband, a picket fence, and a growing sense of dissatisfaction. Ray used to be a talented documentary photographer, but at age forty he finds himself in a dead- end job posing as a paparazzo pandering to celebrity-obsessed rich kids. Jack is a detective who can't let go of a cold case-a local husband and father disappeared seventeen years ago, and Jack spends the anniversary every year visiting a house frozen in time, the missing man's family still waiting, his slippers left by the recliner as if he might show up any moment to step into them.

Three people living lives they never wanted, hiding secrets that even those closest to them would never suspect, will find that the past doesn't recede. Even as the terrible consequences of long-ago events crash together in the present and threaten to ruin lives, they will come to the startling realization that they may not want to forget the past at all. And as each confronts the dark side of the American Dream- the boredom of a nice suburban life, the excitement of temptation, the desperation and hunger that can lurk behind even the prettiest facades- they will discover the hard truth that the line between one kind of life and another can be as whisper-thin as a heartbeat.

With his trademark combination of page-turning thrills and unrivaled insight into the dark shadows that creep into even the happiest communities, Harlan Coben delivers a thriller that cements his status as the master of domestic suspense.

Review:

"In the prologue to this Kafkaesque stand-alone from bestseller Coben (Stay Close), Jake Fisher, a political science professor at Lanford College in Massachusetts, promises the love of his life, Natalie Avery, to leave her and the man she's about to wed, Todd Sanderson, alone. For six years Jake keeps his promise, until he sees Todd's obituary, flies to the deceased's Palmetto Bluff, S.C., funeral, and finds that the widow is not Natalie. This is merely the first of many shocks. He later gets the brush-off from Natalie's sister, and when he tries to revisit the retreat in Kraftboro, Vt., that Natalie was attending when they fell in love, he's told there is (and was) no such place. Surprising secrets among Jake's friends and colleagues propel him on a trail of violence and labyrinthine deception. Coben has achieved greater suspense in other thrillers, but this ranks among his strangest and most ingenious plots. 5-city author tour. Agent: Lisa Erbach Vance, Aaron Priest Literary Agency." Synopsis:

The #1 New York Times bestselling authors latest stand-alone thriller, with a cameo by her fan-favorite character, Boston Detective D.D. Warren

My name is Nicky Frank. Except, most likely, it isnt.

Nicole Frank shouldnt have been able to survive the car accident, much less crawl up the steep ravine. Not in the dark, not in the rain, not with her injuries. But one thought allows her to defy the odds and flag down help: Vero.

Im looking for a little girl. I have to save her. Except, most likely, she doesnt exist.

Sergeant Wyatt Foster is frustrated when even the search dogs cant find any trace of the mysterious missing child. Until Nickys husband, Thomas, arrives with a host of shattering revelations: Nicole Frank suffers from a rare brain injury and the police shouldnt trust anything she says.

My husband claims hell do anything to save me. Except, most likely, he cant.

Who is Nicky Frank, and what happened the night her car sailed off the road? Was it a random accident or something more sinister given the womans lack of family and no close friends? The deeper Wyatt digs, the more concerned he becomes. Because it turns out, in the past few months, Nicky has suffered from more than one close accident. . . . In fact, it would appear someone very much wants her dead.

This is my life. Except, most likely, its not. Now watch me crash and burn.

SIX YEARS is Harlan Coben at his almost best. All the old features of his mystery-thrillers are here again--except one. But this is still the book that will make you want another Coben book as soon as you can get it.

It has been six years since Jake, a young college professor, has seen the love of his life, Natalie. When he reads an obituary of the man she supposedly married, he begins looking for her. This quest, to find an old girlfriend, involves mystery upon mystery upon mystery--trademark Harlan Coben and the reason we love his books.

But note: this whole thing is over a girlfriend who he knew for only a couple of months and who he hasn't seen in six years, which is more than enough time to get over it, more than enough time to even forget what she looks like.

Even so, if you just go with it and accept that Natalie was the love of Jake's life and worth all the bullets and beatings and close calls, you'll have fun with all the mysteries, trying to figure them out and learning that the solutions are far from what you expect.

The one old feature of Coben's books that this book is missing: the big surprise at the end.

Do not start this book unless you have time to sit and finish it. It starts at a wedding, not your everyday wedding but one with a twist. After the ceremony, a promise is made. That promise lasts six years and then "the plot thickens". As with all of Harlan Coben's books, the plot takes turn after turn and just when you have solved the case, you find out that you have not even started. A really great read.

Six years have passed since Jake Fisher watched Natalie, the love of his life, marry another man. Six years of hiding a broken heart by throwing himself into his career as a college professor. Six years of keeping his promise to leave Natalie alone, and six years of tortured dreams of her life with her new husband, Todd.

But six years haven’t come close to extinguishing his feelings, and when Jake comes across Todd’s obituary, he can’t keep himself away from the funeral. There he gets the glimpse of Todd’s wife he’s hoping for…but she is not Natalie. Whoever the mourning widow is, she’s been married to Todd for almost two decades, and with that fact everything Jake thought he knew about the best time of his life--a time he has never gotten over--is turned completely inside out.

Dollycas’s Thoughts
Classic Coben! I absolutely loved this story! Wow!

The entire story is told from Jake’s point of view and we get to know everything he is feeling from confusion to joy and every other emotion you can conceive. A character with layers and we get to peel them away and really understand his life. To love someone so quickly and so deeply, then to have them just slip away, later realizing all the lies and deception, and knowing that if he delves any further to get to the truth he is putting himself and people he cares about in danger.

This complex story is very unique and perfectly paced. I loved the romantic twist in this suspense filled novel, spiced with just a bit of humor -- Coben style. Readers are taken on a wild ride from the first page to the last. You will not be able to put this book down so plan accordingly. Harlan Coben keeps getting better and better! I don’t know how he is going to top this one! Pre-Order your copy today!
