Fallen Angels

Fallen Angels Cover

Synopses & Reviews

Publisher Comments:

An exciting, eye-catching repackage of acclaimed author Walter Dean Myers' bestselling paperbacks, to coincide with the publication of SUNRISE OVER FALLUJA in hardcover.

A coming-of-age tale for young adults set in the trenches of the Vietnam War in the late 1960s, this is the story of Perry, a Harlem teenager who volunteers for the service when his dream of attending college falls through. Sent to the front lines, Perry and his platoon come face-to-face with the Vietcong and the real horror of warfare. But violence and death aren't the only hardships. As Perry struggles to find virtue in himself and his comrades, he questions why black troops are given the most dangerous assignments, and why the U.S. is even there at all.

To commemorate the 20th anniversary of the publication of "Fallen Angels," a gripping account of soldiers struggling to survive the Vietnam War, it and other classic novels by Myers are now reissued in new paperback editions that include bonus features.

Fallen Angels was a motivating and powerful story. It's a story of survival. Richie Perry is a high school graduate, but because his alcoholic mother can't afford to send him to college. So, Richie enlists in the U.S army. Fallen Angels, has so many themes, in order to get all the themes of this powerful story you would have to read this book many times. Which is not all that bad with a story as good as this one. Richie, wants to be a hero and honor his country, but he and his squad members also want to get out of Vietnam alive. Loss of innocence is one of the themes, in the book. Fallen Angels is not like any other war story, it's not about the killing, blood, or gore. It is much deeper than any other war story. It shows the ugly part of war. This is a great read for anyone above the age of 13, or any war story lovers.

The book itself is a truly Amazing book. It is great for war story fans and is very realistic. It tells what it was like from a first person experience what life was like in Vietnam. It goes into detail on what combat is like somtimes I actually thought I was alongside Perry and his squad fighting in thejungles.
The book explains his relationship with his little brothe and how he writes back and forth to him. Perry meets A lot of good comerades to fight alongside with and loses many of them.I highly recomend this book Because of the way the author breaks down the sequence of events which make it easy to follow.
