Cosette Freeman, November 12, 2014 (view all comments by Cosette Freeman)
When faith in myself or our species wobbles, I read Jack Kornfield's The Art of Forgiveness, Lovingkindness, and Peace. Here are bracing stories of fortitude, decency, and forgiveness shared by people who have experienced the extremes of suffering and injustice. These accounts prevail over cynicism and self-pity. Kornfield provides inspiring (in the root sense of the word) meditations and quotations from spiritual teachers of many faiths that can help transform despair into purposeful and loving action. This book is a wonderful companion during grief.
