Synopses & Reviews

Publisher Comments:

Set in a brothel designed for the fulfilment of any conceivable fantasy, it is peopled with characters driven by their most private compulsions, and played against the background of a revolution which finally permits the clients of the brothel to enact in reality the fantasies they have been indulging in make-believe.

Review:

"His aim is to transform the good citizen into the aesthete: is there any finer revenge against the spirit of seriousness?" Jean-Paul Sartre

Balcony is a place which connects the private arena of home{here, the house of illusions},to outside world.in other words it connects the private with the public.it is a meeting point between the two.'The Balcony' is an apt title for the above mentioned play.in the play we can see the connection between Irma's house of illusions and the outside world.various people come to Irma's house of illusions to enact their fantasies.they take up the roles of various figures of powers and in this way critique these institutions of society.they lay bare in front of us,the hypocrisy and injustice pravelent in society.
