Publisher Comments:

Part of the 8-book Tamora Pierce reissue for Fall 2006, this title in the Circle of Magic quartet features spellbinding new cover art. Coincides with the release of WILL OF THE EMPRESS in trade pb.

Four elements of power, four mages-in-training learning to control them. In Book 2 of the Circle of Magic Quartet, earthquake damage has left Winding Circle vulnerable to pirate attack and Tris, Briar, Daja, and Sandry are working with the community to strengthen their defenses. When the pirate onslaught begins, two things become terribly clear: The pirates have a powerful new weapon--and they have an accomplice within Winding Circle. But they've failed to anticipate the fury of a young mage who has been betrayed once too often, and who has very stubborn, very loyal friends....

Book Two in the Circle of Magic Quartet

Earthquake damage leaves Winding Circle vulnerable to pirate attack, so everyone — including the young mages-in-training Tris, Briar, Daja, and Sandry — is working to strengthen the community's defenses. When Tris's cousin Aymery comes to visit, he advises the "weather witch" to return to the family that exiled her, but she doesn't wish to leave her friends to face the threat without her.

As the onslaught begins, two things become terribly clear: the pirates have a powerful new weapon, and they have an accomplice within Winding Circle. But the attackers have failed to reckon with the fury of a young mage betrayed once too often and her very stubborn, very loyal friends....

Synopsis:

When Winding Circle comes under attack by Pirate Queen Pahua and her army, the four magicians-in-training unite in their powers to defeat the enemy.

This is a great second book to the series. This one is from Tris's point of view and how the four of them are learning new things about their magic and deepening their friendships. Great book!!

Part two of the Circle of Magic Quartet finds Tris's magical abilities put to the test when Winding Circle is attacked by pirates. This series isn't quite as good as the Tortall novels, IMO, but I still love it.
