About the Author

Carter Niemeyer is an Iowa native and a biologist with two degrees from Iowa State University. He worked 26 years for USDA Animal Damage Control in Montana where he was a trapper, a district supervisor, and the West's wolf management specialist. He retired in 2006 from the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service as the federal wolf recovery coordinator for Idaho.

A look at the evolution and transformation of Carter Niemeyer. He was at ground zero for most of the significant mileposts in wolf recovery in the western U.S. in the 80s, 90s, and 00s, and gives his firsthand account of those events. His easy-to-read narrative outlines his personal and professional "growth" and he tells it like he sees it regarding wolf management; after all this is a memoir. Anyone with even a passing interest in wolf-related topics, and the ever present controversy that seems to envelop it, you will be told the tale of one of the wolf world's important players.
