Synopses & Reviews

Publisher Comments:

H. A. Rey and his wife, Margret, first introduced young readers to the big-hearted, fun-loving troublemaker-hero Curious George in 1941. In this two-hundred-page hardcover treasury, Curious George fans will find eight stories based on the popular primate, painted in Reys original watercolor and charcoal style: Curious George Goes to a Chocolate Factory (1998), Curious George and the Puppies (1998), Curious George Makes Pancakes (1998), Curious George Feeds the Animals (1998), Curious George Goes to a Movie (1998), Curious George and the Hot Air Balloon (1998), Curious George in the Snow (1998), and Curious Georges Dream (1998). A five-page essay about the author-illustrator team closes this appealing collection of adventures for Curious George fans young and old.

Synopsis:

More monkey mischief! Curious George is back in this collection of eight new adventures, which will keep the man in the yellow hat on his toes and a new generation of readers enthralled. George causes chaos in a chocolate factory, a movie theater, on the ski slopes, and at Mt. Rushmore. His big heart also gets him into a big fix when he tries to help other animals. Even George's dreams become zany adventures! From a pancake panic to puppies on the loose, this cheerful and amazingly resilient little hero has a real knack for getting himself in and out of trouble.

About the Author

Hans Augusto Rey was born in Hamburg, Germany in 1898. As a child, he spent much of his free time in that city's famous Hagenbeck Zoo drawing animals. After serving in the army during World War I, he studied philology and natural science at the University of Hamburg. He then married Margret Rey and they moved to Montmartre for four years. The manuscript for the first Curious George books was one of the few items the Reys carried with them on their bicycles when they escaped from Paris in 1940. Eventually, they made their way to the United States, and Curious George was published in 1941. Curious George has been published in many languages, including French, German, Japanese, Afrikaans, and Norwegian. Additional Curious George books followed, as well as such other favorites as CECILY G. AND THE NINE MONKEYS and FIND THE CONSTELLATIONS.
