Synopses & Reviews

Publisher Comments:

There is a new book about the Happy Hocky Family. They have moved. Now they live in the country in a nice old house. Now when it rains outside, it rains inside their house, too. No more alarm clocks! The neighbor's rooster goes "COCK-A-DOODLE-DOO" at 5:30. Look! Henry has made a bird feeder. The squirrels think it is a fine feeder. See Holly make a pretty bouquet of plants with three leaves. See Holly itch. Read the book! Have fun.

Synopsis:

When the Hocky family moves to a big old house in the country, it takes them some time to adjust to a new way of life.

Synopsis:

"The Happy Hocky Family Move to the Country!" relates this family's mishaps as they adjust to their new home. Full color.

Smith's "simple" yet quirky and humorous illustrations combined with his "simple" text and dry humor make for some really funny reading. (Less is more!) My 5 year old son actually fell off the couch while I was reading this because he was laughing so hard, though I must confess both my kids have an odd sense of humor. That said, there is a lot of hidden humor that only adults will get. This is a kids' book that parents may enjoy even more than their kids!

P.S. Also recommended by Book Lust librarian Nancy Pearl ( Book Crush: For Kids and Teens - Recommended Reading for Every Mood, Moment and Interest, p. 41).
