About the AuthorTomie De PaolaTomie De Paola says: "I don't write for children, I write from my own experience as a child, and I feel that as I get older those experiences are becoming more vivid with distance." Mr. De Paola was born in Meriden, Connecticut, and by the time he could hold a pencil, he knew what his life's work would be. In addition to the Caldecott Honor Book Award he received for Strega Nona, he has also earned many of the prestigious awards in his field including the Kerlan Award from the University of Minnesota, the Catholic Library Association's Regina Award, the University of Southern Mississippi's deGrummond Award, all for the body of his work.
